I didn’t start learning AI because I wanted to become an AI expert. I started learning it because I wanted something I have wanted for most of my life:
Freedom.
I grew up without much money. So I learned early that money is not really about having money. It is about having choices.
Where you live. How you work. Who you work with.
How you spend your time. For a long time, I thought the way to get those choices was obvious. Go to school.
Get a degree. Get a good job. Work hard.
Make enough money. Then you’ll have freedom. So I followed the path.
I studied Business Administration and Management. Later, I earned an MBA. I became a lecturer. Then I moved into consulting and development work.
I learned how businesses work. I helped people improve their finances, systems, reporting, and digital skills. I was building a career. But I was also slowly realising that a career and freedom are not the same thing.
You can have a job and still have very little control over your time. You can earn more money and still be tied to one place. You can become successful on paper and still not have the life you actually want.
That bothered me. Then I discovered what the internet made possible. Someone sitting at home in Sierra Leone could learn from people anywhere in the world.
Work with clients in other countries. Build websites. Create digital products.
Share ideas with a global audience. I started seeing a different path. Then AI arrived and made that path much more interesting.
Suddenly, one person could do things that once required several people. Research faster. Write faster.
Learn faster. Analyse information. Create content.
Build software and websites. Automate repetitive work. Turn an idea into something real much faster than before.
And I realised something:
AI is not just a technology story.
It is a leverage story. The person who knows how to use AI well can sometimes do the work of a much larger team. Not because the person is smarter.
Because the person has better leverage. That changed how I approached my own work. Instead of asking, “What job can I get?”
I started asking:
“What can I build?”
Instead of asking, “How do I compete?” I started asking:
“How can I use technology to become more valuable?”
Instead of asking, “How do I work harder?” I started asking:
“What can I make simpler?”
Today, I use AI and digital tools from home to serve clients locally and internationally. I'm still building. I’m still learning.
And I’m still working toward the level of freedom I want. But the important thing is that I can see a path that didn’t feel possible before. That is why I believe AI matters.
Not because everyone needs to become technical. Not because every business needs dozens of AI tools. And definitely not because AI is going to magically make everyone rich.
The opportunity is much simpler. AI gives ordinary people more leverage.
And leverage can create options. A freelancer can serve more clients. A consultant can deliver better work.
A small business can automate repetitive tasks. A creator can produce more. A professional can learn a new skill faster.
A person with an idea can build the first version without needing a large team. That is the part of AI that excites me. Not the hype.
The possibility. Because I know what it feels like to want more freedom and not know how to get there. I spent years following the path I was told would lead to it.
Today, I’m trying a different path. And I think a lot of people have the same opportunity. You do not need to know everything about AI.
You do not need to become an engineer. You do not need the perfect laptop, the perfect business, or the perfect plan. You need to start learning how the tools can help you become more capable.
Then use them. Build something. Serve someone.
Solve a real problem. Get better. That is how I’m approaching AI.
And that is what I’ll be writing about here. The tools I use. The systems I build.
The things that work. The things that don't. And what I’m learning about using AI to build a life with more freedom.
Because that has always been the goal. AI is just one of the best tools I’ve found to help me get there.
